Head of Creative & Designer Resources - Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival
Yolanda Finch is a recognised expert in the niche field of large-scale fashion event production. She joined the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival team in October 2009 and now leads the Creative & Designer Resources department, which works year-round for the benefit of the Australian fashion industry as well as to create an inspiring program of events at VAMFF, the world’s largest fashion event, each March.
As a Producer and Creative Director Yolanda has been creating memorable show experiences for over ten years, producing runways, events and fashion spectacles for hundreds of thousands of audience members. In this time she’s had the opportunity to work alongside some of the very best fashion, creative and event professionals in the country. Added to her official duties, Yolanda is something of a professional chameleon, regularly undertaking roles including stylist, creative director, show director, choreographer, casting manager, copywriter, set designer, music director and more. But it’s her ability to bring together all the diverse components of a fashion production of a large and complex nature that has most distinctly defined her career.
Q. What’s one thing you wish you’d known when you started your career?
A: It’s hard to imagine being given a nugget of wisdom to circumvent my years of lessons learned on the job, but I probably could have used this piece of advice earlier on: trust your gut and don’t compromise.
