Emily Ward is a Melbourne-based stylist and weekly contributor to The Age. Her contributions in The Age include fashion and interior design columns in addition to covers for Life & Style, Sunday Life, A2, Epicure and M Magazine. Within this role Emily also writes regularly for The Age.
She annually styles runways for the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival and is a regular fixture at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, styling and directing the headline Designer Series runways. Additional experience includes parades for Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, Air France, St Tropez, Myer Melbourne, Ozdare, Kevin Murphy and Decjuba.
Attending Paris Fashion Week annually as an accredited media delegate of the Fédération Française de la Couture Emily draws inspiration from international runway collections. Emily’s aesthetic is sophisticated and refined, but punctuated by the quirky and unusual. Her passion is fuelled by the ever-changing landscape of design and a burning desire to capture the beauty in fashion. Her approach is underpinned by a strong ethical code and an industrious work ethic.
Q. What’s one thing you wish you’d known when you started your career?
A: Be tough, be fair, be wise. Tough on yourself because public opinion is unforgiving. Be fair to those around you and be wise – plan ahead think about your trajectory.
