Make up Director
In 1997, after a stint at a growing Melbourne makeup brand to earn his makeup stripes, Dean was catapulted to the role of Global Premier Makeup Artist for Estee Lauder. In this impressive position, Dean was fast-tracked to an international level which enabled him to showcase his unique skills in the US, London, Europe and Asia. Since then, Dean has worked with the biggest brands in the business as makeup director for the shows of Redken, Matrix, Kerastase and L’Oréal Professionnel. He has also worked his magic on some of the world’s most beautiful people including, Kristy Hinze, Miranda Kerr, Elizabeth Hurley and Delta Goodrum. In addition, Dean has had a longstanding relationship with David Jones, where he has directed the makeup for the department store’s seasonal fashion shows for the past fifteen seasons.
Dean has also developed a great relationship with the Melbourne Herald Sun newspaper, working on their editorial photo shoots and writing the ‘Road Test’ column for the Sunday Herald Sun. A multi tasker of note, Dean also adds running his own brand ‘Master Makeup By Dean Nixon’ and a brand ambassador role for Dr Lewinn Skin Perfect to his repertoire.

The Makeup presentation informs students about the role of Make Up Director and make up teams in the preparation of a runway show. The talk will look at the creative process of responding to a brief and developing a look, what makes a good make up look, makeup look inspiration and personal anecdotes about getting started in the industry.
